Trinity trump Royal @ 64th Bradby Shield

June 16, 2008

As predicted from the first time I saw them take to the field, the inevitable has happened. What hurts the most is, if it was a keenly contested game where by no quarter was asked nor given. If the same continues in Kandy I stand to gain a 1000. Yes, I have committed the unholy act of betting on the enemy. It was done purely on my confidence in our team rather than the Trinity. The confidence I had that they’d manage to keep on doing the same mistakes right through out the season. I’d trade the 1000 for the lost pride, any day. But since I cant. it’ll come in handy for drowning my sorrows.

This is all crap, you wanted to know what happened right? Well points wise.. we lost.. 24 to 12. Game wise.. they out played us most of the time. There were more than a few occasions where we had the ball in our hands and looked to threaten, but that was all. Talk the talk only. When it comes to walking. we suck. This despite the putting early points on the board, and putting preasure on the Trininy. I suppose that’s what good sides do. Convert preasurre to their advantage. From leading 7-0, we ended up trailing 14-7 at lemons.

Rather than getting into a detailed analysis, why not read the ones that have already been printed. But you all know i’m too much of a Rugby buff to keep my mouth shut?.. So I just need to mention that, apart from the obvious fact of we missed soo many tackles, and the line lacked numbers, the cover defence didn’t come in, so obviously the Trinity wingers had a brilliant game coz they kept breaching our first line and basically only line of defence. Also we were depending on Bilal way too much, and he was obviously marked. Although we had a good 3rd row, in the past few games they didn’t come were sleeping during this game, and were late at the breakdowns, as opposed to the Trinity 3rd row, which managed to turn over quite a few rucks. If our chaps were on their feet, we could have easily made more 2nd and 3rd phase moves of the good ball that was being set up by Bilal.

While all the papers mention the brilliance of the three quarter line of Trinity, their halves combination also should get a special word, as if not for them, the back line would have been starved. There were some amazing punts down the field, well picked up by the charging centers, and the scrum half’s quick thinking kept the game in their control.

That being said, I hope the coaches CP, Viraj and Jamaldeen can knock some sense it our boys. Although I have doubts of a come back win in Kandy (after all this is not Shanaka Perera’s team), a good match is all I ask for where no quarter is given nor asked. Maybe take some pointers from the CR-Kandy game.

I hope Kandy sees a little more effort by Royal because the Colombo match was pretty awful.

Drunken idiots, a stupid principal+coach, and a totally unsupportive line. :S i was sorely disappointed..

The organizing committee sucked this year. What happened to the macho looking security guards posted right around the ground? There weren’t many cop buggers to be seen.

As for the crowd, well there is no excuse for that. Drunken or not.

Another contributing factor for the on-field performance, I would say was the previous weeks win against the Pete’s. I believe too much of confidence crept in to their heads after that.

I think this is little late to write this. (Even after winning the 65th Bradby shield – 2009 )

But…. the second leg of the 64th Bradby (2008) at Kandy was one of the BEST FOUGHT in the Bradby History Ive seen. Just think being beaten for 24 – 12 at our own Grounds, the Royalists massacred Trinity Lions in front of their crowd. (8-0)

I started my Bradby experiences watching the 1997 2nd leg at Sugathadasa. We lost by 1 point. It was a HARDY FIGHT BACK. Then remember 1998.The Best come back ever.
In 2000,We lost by 4 but Beat Trinity at Kandy 2nd leg. But 2008 was better.’cos we kept them scoreless.

    ROYAL is our NAME….
    RUGBY is our GAME…
    BRADBY is our AIM….
