The Drummer Orgy

2008 July 31

Atleast I’m sure that I’ve gotten RD’s attention if not a few searches that might end up looking for “Drums” + “Orgy” + “Sri Lankan”. :-)

Well this post has been stuck in my heads Draft bin for some time, and like all things in life it’s running out of space, so I thought what better time with the Hikka fest on to get into some Trancy music. I won’t even bother of doing a Review or something close to it, coz Sach the Encyclopedia of Music who also happened to have a Program of the Gig, has done so already.

What am I going on about? The Thriloka Gig.. Almost Acoustic. If you missed the gig, I hope you caught them at gig at RnB, if you missed that too.. hope this will help :

A clip of a tune I very much liked. Unfortunately do not know the name of it. Maybe some help from Sach.

The Earth Song Cover feat CC. He went a wee bit flat/off, but was a decent effort. Although I must say I liked the Instrumental version they played at their first concert at the Russian Cultural Center.

Finale… performance featuring the Greats Anthony Surendra and Kalani Perera.

Lastly the Drummer Boy’s Solo. Sadly I couldn’t REC the whole thing. I was struck by the curse of the Low Batt on the Camera.

Well that’s all folks.. Hope I haven’t exposed my self.. once again.. :-)

I’m pretty sure that is Rage de Latino but it’s open to correction.

RD, the drummer from thriloka, Harshan, is expected to be, if he isn’t already, the best drummer in Sri Lanka. Undoubtedly talented.

Thanks sach… if you still haven’t figured out I was sitting in front of you.. ;-)

    RD : Mission Accomplished :-D

confab : I thought they was bloody awesome when I saw them, at their first concert at the same venue. Music was very raw, and I liked it. Since then, I think have matured and have become more polished, while that is good I still miss the energy they created being all raw. Also miss the other chap on the oriental drums, both him and Pabalu seemed to have a good relationship. While Eshantha seems to be equally brilliant adding to the line up, he doesn’t seem to visually match up to the other band members. He needs to go shopping with the other chaps.. and maybe less visits to the Barber ;-) Also missed the chap who intro’d the songs in their first concert. He seemed to be stoned out of his mind, that night. Hope he’s ok :-D

haha i agree with u that eshantha probably sticks out like a sore thumb. but that’s probably only coz he’s out and out classically trained and educated, whereas the rest are raw musicians. having said that though, eshantha certainly adds a lot to their compositions.

other chap on the oriental drums? isnt that the guy who plays the rain maker and the tiny cymbals? is he no longer there?:O

off topic – how are you Chaarmax? what’s new?? :)

Confab : Like I said machang, he doesn’t fit in only visually. He definitely brings a lot to the table music wise. So much so that transforms the entire scene to another level.

Err yup, that other long haired chap. Dunno whether he just didn’t show up for the Gig, or he’s drifted.

LD : Hey.. thanks for asking.. been busy man.. running like a mad dog.. spent 4 days in Hikka.. That was Awesome!! Will Blog all abt it sooooooon! I promise… Stay tuned… :-)
