May Day for Me

If I recall my social studies lessons back in year 6 or 7, it’s all got to do with some incident in Chicargo, and a strugle/campaign for an 8 hour working day. Coming a long way from it’s origins the May Day today is celebrated as a meer holiday, for most of us in Sri Lanka. There might be a few (hundred thousand who’d participate in rallies and parades) but for me it’s a nice break in the week.. apart from other more important significances..

1. The Day that started it ALL. Till this particular day dawned 15 years ago, our country was on a path to development, prosperity and social democrasy both to the working class and the business class. But it was not to be the case. The one man who could take Sri Lanka to where Singapore is right now, was taken away from us on this day. Like every leader we’ve had before and after, he had his faults. The difference was that his strengths out numbered them by far. His thinking tank was unconceivable, 200 Garment Factories, Gam-Udawa movement, Jana-Saviya and one that I notice the most.. development of Roads. Some of the Roads, we travel on are still there thanks to the very man. This island paradise is truly cursed. Not enough to have a ranging war engulf the country for two decades, it keeps losing it’s leaders in the most untimely manner. Ven. Soma is another example. Where ever you are, may you re-visit this for-saken land and complete your mission, before you enter the journey into Nirvana.

2. It’s simply the month I celebrate something very.. Me. My B’Day. :-)

3. Also gives me shivers, as it reminds me that I have got around 4 months of Bacherlor hood. :-( and even less to get all the wedding plans into action! Aaahhrrggg. As promised will feature my future posts on them. Like the “Top 5 to do’s”.

Oh and btw.. wish me luck @ 12.20pm. For what? I’ll tell you later. :-D
